- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for buttercream)
- 1/2 cup butter, softened (for buttercream)
- 3–4 cups powdered sugar (for buttercream)

- Milk as needed (for buttercream)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake tin with paper liners.
- Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then stir in the milk and vanilla extract until combined.
- Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt together in a separate bowl.
- Combine the dry mixture with the wet ingredients gradually, stirring gently until just combined.
- Fill each cupcake liner about 2/3 full with batter.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Cool the cupcakes in the tin for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- Make the buttercream by beating together softened butter and cocoa powder, then gradually add powdered sugar and enough milk for desired consistency, finishing with vanilla extract.
- Frost the cooled cupcakes and serve.
Notes
Use room temperature ingredients for a better texture; do not overmix the batter to prevent dense cupcakes.
