Description
A flavorful and comforting stuffing recipe combining savory sausage with sweet apples, onions, and herbs. Perfect as a side dish for Thanksgiving, holiday dinners, or any special occasion.
Ingredients
1 lb breakfast sausage, casing removed
1 medium onion, chopped
2 celery stalks, chopped
2 apples, peeled, cored, and diced
8 cups cubed day-old bread
1/2 cup chicken or vegetable broth
1/4 cup unsalted butter
1 tsp dried sage
1 tsp dried thyme
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
Optional: chopped fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2. In a large skillet, cook sausage over medium heat until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
3. In the same skillet, sauté onions and celery in butter until softened, about 5 minutes.
4. Add diced apples, sage, thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 3 minutes until apples slightly soften.
5. In a large bowl, combine bread cubes, cooked sausage, and vegetable mixture. Stir in chicken broth until evenly moistened.
6. Transfer mixture to prepared baking dish and cover with foil.
7. Bake for 25–30 minutes, then remove foil and bake an additional 10–15 minutes until top is golden and crispy.
8. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
Notes
Use day-old bread for best texture; fresh bread may become mushy.
Adjust seasoning according to taste.
Can be prepared a day ahead and baked before serving.
