Ingredients
2 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and halved
1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
1/2 cup unsalted butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup water
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, for serving
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Cut puff pastry into 4 equal squares.
3. Place one apple half in the center of each square.
4. In a saucepan, melt butter with brown sugar, water, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Simmer for 2–3 minutes until syrupy.
5. Brush pastry edges with egg wash and fold over apples, sealing tightly.
6. Place dumplings in a greased baking dish and pour syrup mixture over the top.
7. Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden brown and apples are tender.
8. Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
Notes
Best served fresh from the oven while warm.
For extra flavor, tuck a few raisins or chopped nuts inside the apples before wrapping.
Reheat leftovers in the oven to keep the pastry crisp.
