- 1 cup boiling water
- Fresh strawberries, sliced
- 1/2 cup sugar (for macerating strawberries)
- Chocolate ganache (for shell topping)
- Whipped cream (optional, for serving)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
- Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and beat on medium speed for about 2 minutes.
- Incorporate the boiling water carefully into the batter.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Macerate strawberries by mixing them with 1/2 cup sugar and letting them sit for 30 minutes.
- Assemble the cake by layering one cake onto a serving plate, spreading macerated strawberries, and adding the second layer on top.
- Add chocolate ganache over the top of the cake.
- Serve with whipped cream if desired.
