Description

Rich, velvety Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows that’s ready in just 10 minutes. This festive drink features high-quality chocolate melted into creamy milk, topped with fluffy marshmallows and optional whipped cream. Perfect for cold winter nights, holiday gatherings, or anytime you need a comforting treat.

Ingredients

Scale

4 cups whole milk

6 ounces high-quality dark chocolate (60-70% cacao), finely chopped

3 tablespoons granulated sugar

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon sea salt

2 cups mini marshmallows, plus extra for topping

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Optional: 1/3 cup heavy cream for extra richness

Whipped cream for topping

Chocolate shavings for garnish

Candy canes for stirring

Instructions

1. Pour milk into a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan and heat over medium-low heat until small bubbles form around edges (do not boil).

2. Add chopped chocolate, sugar, and salt. Reduce heat to low and whisk constantly until chocolate melts completely and mixture is smooth and glossy, about 3-4 minutes.

3. Add vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg, whisking to incorporate fully.

4. Stir in 2 cups mini marshmallows and let them melt partially into the hot chocolate for a creamy texture.

5. If using heavy cream, add it now and whisk until fully combined.

6. Pour into pre-warmed mugs, leaving 1 inch of space at the top.

7. Top generously with additional marshmallows, whipped cream, chocolate shavings, and candy cane stirrers.

8. Serve immediately while hot and enjoy!

Notes

For thicker hot chocolate, add 1-2 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with cold milk before heating.

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on stovetop over low heat.

For dairy-free version, use oat milk or coconut milk and dairy-free chocolate.

Adjust sweetness by adding more or less sugar according to your preference.

For adults, add a splash of Irish cream or Kahlua for a special treat.
