Description
Sweet and tender candied yams cooked with butter, brown sugar, and warm spices. A classic comfort food and holiday favorite that’s simple and delicious.
Ingredients
4 cups peeled and sliced yams or sweet potatoes
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
Optional: mini marshmallows for topping
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2. In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until smooth.
3. Add sliced yams and toss to coat evenly with the sugar-butter mixture.
4. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish.
5. Cover with foil and bake for 25–30 minutes, until yams are tender.
6. Remove foil, stir gently, and optionally top with mini marshmallows.
7. Bake an additional 10 minutes until marshmallows are golden and melted.
8. Serve warm.
Notes
Use evenly sliced yams for consistent cooking.
Adjust sugar and spices to taste.
Can be made ahead and reheated before serving.
